Stanley Business
Terms of use
Last updated 3 October 2026
Draft for legal review. This document is a working draft and has not yet been reviewed by a solicitor. It will be updated before final publication.
These terms apply to everyone who uses stanleybusiness.co.uk (“Stanley Business”, “we”, “us”), including customers and businesses that list with us. By using the site you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.
1. What we do
Stanley Business is an online directory and marketplace for local businesses within 150 km of Stanley, County Durham. We help customers find businesses, make bookings, buy products, request quotes, read and write reviews and contact businesses. Unless we say otherwise, the contract for any service, booking or product is between you and the business, not with us.
2. Accounts
- You must be 18 or over to create an account, make a booking or buy anything.
- Keep your login details safe and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account.
- Give accurate information, and keep it up to date.
- We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms or the law, or that put other users at risk.
3. Bookings
Bookings are requests to the business. A booking may be pending until the business confirms it, unless the business has chosen automatic confirmation. You can view or cancel a booking using the link in your confirmation email or from your account. Each business sets its own cancellation, no-show and deposit policies, and you should check these with the business.
4. Buying from the shop
- Products are sold by the business named on the product page. Prices are in pounds sterling and include VAT where the business is VAT-registered.
- Payments are taken securely by our payment provider, Stripe. We never see or store your full card details.
- Click & collect orders are collected from the business; delivery orders are sent to UK addresses only.
- Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 (including, for most goods bought online, a 14-day right to cancel) are against the business that sold the goods. We will help you contact the business if there is a problem.
5. Quotes and enquiries
When you send a quote request or an enquiry, we share it with the relevant business or businesses so they can reply. Quotes are offers from the business; accepting one forms a contract with that business, not with us.
6. Reviews
- Reviews must be your own genuine experience of the business. One review per business per account.
- No offensive, defamatory, discriminatory or misleading content, no personal data of others, and no reviews of your own business or a competitor.
- Businesses may reply publicly. We may remove reviews that break these rules. We do not accept payment to remove or change honest reviews.
7. Businesses that list with us
- You must be authorised to act for the business and it must be based within our area.
- Your listing, prices, offers, opening hours and products must be accurate and lawful. You are responsible for the goods and services you provide and for complying with consumer, trading standards, data protection and tax law.
- Paid plans (Pro and Premium) are billed monthly in advance through Stripe and renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from your dashboard; your plan stays active until the end of the paid period.
- Shop sales carry a commission shown on our plans page, deducted before payouts are made to your Stripe account.
- If you connect your own domain, you must own or control it. We may disconnect a domain that is misused.
- Demo listings created by us are clearly labelled and are not real businesses.
8. Acceptable use
Don’t misuse the site: no illegal content, spam, scraping, attempts to break our security, fake accounts or listings, or anything that harms other users or us.
9. Our responsibility to you
We work hard to keep the site accurate and available, but we can’t guarantee it will always be error-free or uninterrupted. We are not responsible for the services or products provided by businesses. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud. Otherwise, our total liability to you is limited to the fees (if any) you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
10. Changes and law
We may update these terms; we’ll show the date of the latest version above and tell account holders about significant changes. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
